Prime Video and MGM+ have canceled the live-action Marvel series ‘Spider-Noir’ following its first season. The eight-episode series, which debuted in May 2026, stars Nicolas Cage as 1930s private investigator Ben Reilly. Despite the cancellation, the production achieved significant critical and industry success. It earned eleven Emmy nominations—the highest number for any Prime Video series in 2026—and secured five Creative Arts Emmy wins for categories including cinematography, sound editing, special visual effects, stunt coordination, and title design. The series also maintained a 92% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Reports indicate the decision was driven by high production costs associated with the 1930s period setting—specifically the expensive dual-version filming in both color and black-and-white—as well as a decline in viewership momentum. While the series generated 2.6 billion streaming minutes in its first six weeks in the US, it struggled to maintain its position in daily Top 10 rankings. Showrunner Oren Uziel had previously suggested that a second season could have transitioned the timeline toward the Second World War or explored new settings in Los Angeles or Europe. Uziel noted that the first season was designed as a ‘closed-ended’ story, though he expressed interest in potentially continuing the character through other production avenues. Lead actor Nicolas Cage has responded to the news by stating that he considers a single season to be “perfect.” Cage noted that he achieved his goal of presenting a “dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man” and expressed satisfaction with the completed narrative arc. The cancellation follows the previous end of the ‘Silk: Spider-Society’ project, marking a setback for the partnership between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television.
