Prime Video has detailed its strategic focus on expanding content offerings in Latin America, specifically targeting high-demand genres like suspense, action, adventure, and comedy. During the ‘Prime Video Presents Latin America’ event in Mexico City, the platform confirmed a US$ 2 billion investment to be deployed between 2027 and 2030. This initiative aims to more than double the volume of original local productions in key markets, including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, and Chile, compared to 2026 levels. The capital will be allocated toward original programming, content licensing, and sports broadcasting rights. Additionally, the strategy includes growing digital stores and investing in local creative infrastructure and technical training, such as the ‘Brasil no Set’ professional development program. For 2027, the service plans to release over 25 new regional titles across fiction, feature films, variety shows, and reality TV. The Brazilian slate includes the documentary ‘Marília Mendonça: Sentimento Louco’, the series ‘Tremembé’ (with a second season confirmed), and a new reality show directed by Boninho. To address high consumer demand for suspense in Brazil, upcoming titles include ‘Bailarina’ (2025), set in the ‘John Wick’ universe, and ‘M3gan 2.0’ (2025). Other regional projects include ‘Menem’ in Argentina, ‘Catedrales’ in Chile, the film ‘Los Culpables’ starring Gael García Bernal, the Mexican adaptation of ‘The Office’ titled ‘La Oficina’, and a series starring Belinda based on the Florence Cassez case in Mexico. The expansion also involves increasing digital rental and purchase options in territories such as Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Paraguay, Peru, and Argentina. case. Beyond scripted content, Prime Video is expanding its sports presence. The platform reported that its sports broadcasts reached 20 million Latin American households in 2026. This includes expanded NBA coverage and a secured four-year deal to broadcast 38 home matches of the Mexico National Team starting in September 2026. The sports strategy also involves continued investment in Brazilian football.
