Prisoner escape from Florianópolis police station

Overview

A 39-year-old man, later identified as Érick Celestino Gomes, escaped from the Central de Plantão Policial (CPP) in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, on the morning of September 26, 2026. Gomes had been arrested hours earlier for domestic violence involving the assault of a partner, her daughter, and the daughter's boyfriend.

Security footage revealed the suspect squeezing his body through a gap of approximately 15 centimeters between the iron bars of his cell—an opening typically used for food delivery. After exiting the cell, he was seen picking up his shoes and walking out of the front door of the police station without being intercepted by officers.

The Civil Police of Santa Catarina (PCSC) closed the cell for modifications to prevent future escapes. Following the incident, authorities launched an operation to locate Gomes and requested preventive detention from the judiciary. He remains at large.
