Priyadarshan and Akshay Kumar film collaborations

Overview

Director Priyadarshan announced a shift in his professional relationship with actor Akshay Kumar, stating he would no longer collaborate on serious film projects. This decision followed the poor theatrical performance of their suspense thriller, ‘Haiwaan’, and the previous underperformance of ‘Khatta Meetha’. Priyadarshan noted that audiences appear to prefer the duo in comedic roles.

Following this decision, the pair is set to reunite for an untitled comedy film set in the 1970s. This project, which marks Priyadarshan’s 99th feature film, is scheduled to begin production in late November 2026. The film will feature an ensemble cast including Annu Kapoor and Rajpal Yadav, with filming locations planned for Rajasthan, Mumbai, and Bhopal.
