PROFEPA environmental enforcement in Mexico

Overview

The Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection (PROFEPA) has conducted several enforcement operations across Mexico to address environmental violations and illegal resource extraction.

In central Mexico, authorities ordered a partial closure of the Alas del Monte plant in Toluca following a vinyl acetate spill that entered a drainage system. Additionally, PROFEPA and the National Guard dismantled an unauthorized sawmill in Morelos, seizing over 11,000 cubic meters of timber to protect the biodiversity of the Bosque de Agua.

In the state of Campeche, enforcement efforts expanded to target illegal forestry and charcoal production. Authorities suspended activities at two sites in Calakmul and Champotón, seizing various wood logs and charcoal. These operations specifically targeted the use of guayacán wood, a species classified as threatened under Mexican environmental regulations.
