Project Pantheon AI center development in Croatia
Overview
Project Pantheon is a proposed 50 billion euro artificial intelligence innovation and development center located in Topusko, Croatia. The project, led by entrepreneur Jako Andabak and American partner Ryan Rich of Pantheon AI, aims to establish a one-gigawatt data center. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2027, with operations expected to commence in 2029.
The development includes significant renewable energy infrastructure, such as a 500 megawatt solar power plant, transformer stations, and battery storage systems. Project manager Mario Gudelj stated that the investors plan to finance over 500 million euros in renewable energy infrastructure to power the facility, which will eventually be handed over to the Croatian transmission system operator (HOPS) to strengthen the national grid.
While the project is expected to create 3,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent positions, experts have raised concerns regarding resource consumption. At full capacity, the center could consume approximately five terawatt-hours of electricity annually, representing over a quarter of Croatia’s total electricity usage. To mitigate environmental and resource impacts, developers claim the facility will utilize specialized cooling solutions and site-specific water sources rather than the public water supply.
