Prosecution of Tren de Aragua members for teacher murder

Colombian authorities have arrested and moved to prosecute eight individuals linked to the ‘Tren de Aragua’ criminal organization for the murder of Kevin Santiago Ángel, a community leader and teacher in Bogotá’s Kennedy district.

Initial investigations identified the suspects as being involved in the homicide of Ángel, who was known for social work aimed at preventing youth involvement in crime and drug trafficking. The arrests were a coordinated effort by the Fiscalía General de la Nación, the National Police, and military units, resulting in the capture of suspects in Bogotá, Pamplona, and a prison in La Dorada.

As the case progressed, prosecutors detailed that the murder, which occurred in May 2026, was motivated by the victim’s community programs interfering with the gang’s illicit finances. Authorities stated the suspects lured the teacher to a property where he was tortured and killed before his body was dismembered and abandoned. The suspects, identified as Venezuelan citizens, face multiple charges including aggravated homicide, torture, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
