Protest against Katarina Peović in Zagreb

Overview

Dražen Keleminec and members of the Autohtona – Hrvatska stranka prava (A-HSP) held a protest at the Zagreb residence of Katarina Peović, a former parliamentary representative. Protesters used loudspeakers and posters labeling Peović a “partizanka”. Peović responded to the demonstration by playing the song “Bella Ciao” on a guitar.

Following the event, Peović issued an open letter to Interior Minister Davor Božinović, criticizing the Ministry of the Interior for refusing to ban the gathering. She described the police response as ‘grotesque’ and expressed concerns regarding the safety and privacy of her family. Peović and 43 other activists and intellectuals had previously signed a request to prohibit the assembly.

Police officials stated the protest was not banned to protect the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, though they maintained they would work to ensure the safety of non-participants.
