PSAC trusteeship of Canadian component unions

Overview

The Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) has initiated trusteeship over multiple component unions due to internal management and oversight concerns.

In August, PSAC placed the Yukon Employees’ Union (YEU) under full trusteeship. Officials stated the move was a response to “systemic governance and structural issues,” including blurred lines between elected leadership and staff, as well as failures regarding bylaw compliance. The action involved the removal of the YEU president, vice-president, and directors to stabilize the 5,900-member organization.

Following this, in September, PSAC placed the Canada Employment and Immigration Union into trusteeship. National President Sharon DeSousa cited concerns regarding “governance and fiduciary operations” as the primary drivers for taking control of that union.
