Psychiatric clinic escape in Saxony

Overview

Police in Saxony are conducting an extensive manhunt for Muhamad M., a 22-year-old man who escaped from the Altscherbitz forensic psychiatric clinic in Schkeuditz, near Leipzig, on September 25, 2026. The escape occurred around 4:00 PM during a supervised walk on the clinic grounds.

Muhamad M. was held at the facility following a July 2026 ruling by the Leipzig Regional Court, which ordered his permanent placement due to a diagnosis of schizophrenia. He had been held provisionally since 2025. His history includes a violent incident in August 2025, during which he allegedly stabbed a man in the chest and lung during a mobile phone robbery on Leipzig’s Eisenbahnstraße.

Authorities warn that the individual poses a significant danger to the public. He is described as approximately 1.78 meters tall with a thin build, a full beard, and short, spiky black hair. He was last seen wearing a light blue windbreaker, blue jeans, and sneakers. He is a native Persian speaker who speaks broken German, and police suggest he may still be in the Leipzig area.
