PT PLN (Persero) is executing various electrical infrastructure and service projects across Indonesia. In Central Java, the company is accelerating the development of electrical infrastructure within the Kendal Special Economic Zone (KEK Kendal). This project includes the construction of a 150 kV Kendal Substation and 150 kV Kendal Incomer High Voltage Overhead Lines, with a target completion date by the end of 2026. The initiative aims to attract investors and increase the number of tenants in the zone. In West Java, PLN has implemented the ‘Electrifying Agriculture’ (EA) program in Bekasi Regency. This initiative replaces fuel-powered pumps with electricity-based irrigation systems for farmers in Cicau Village. The program also provides electric tractors, rice threshing machines, and electric lawn mowers to improve agricultural productivity and farmer income. Expanding into the digital sector, PLN has supplied 2,038 megavolt ampere (MVA) of electricity to 159 data center customers across Indonesia, who have consumed a total of 2,378 gigawatt hours (GWh) of energy. While 99 percent of this capacity is currently concentrated within the Java, Madura, and Bali power systems—with West Java acting as a major cluster—expansion is moving into Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi. PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo noted that growth in the data center sector, fueled by artificial intelligence and digital transformation, necessitates specific electrical characteristics including “high reliability, power quality, and the use of clean energy.” To support this, industry experts such as John Ammentorp from Arup have advised that energy system planners must use digital modeling to manage the impact of large-scale demand on local grids and integrate renewable sources like solar and hydro power to prevent bottlenecks. In Central Sulawesi, PLN is accelerating infrastructure construction in Morowali through its Sulawesi Development Unit (UIP).
