Public education crises in Argentina and Peru

Public education systems in Argentina and Peru continue to face escalating administrative, infrastructural, and labor-related challenges.

In Peru, the crisis has intensified in the Lima region. At the Antonio Graña Elizalde school in Huando and the Jesús de San Graciano school in Aucallama, parents are demanding immediate investment to address dilapidated prefabricated classrooms with cracked structures and inadequate sanitation. In Huando, cleaning efforts reportedly uncovered snakes beneath these temporary structures. Despite previous commitments from the regional governor, funding for approved projects has not been allocated.

In Argentina, localized struggles persist alongside broader regional labor actions. In Catamarca, School No. 995 in Andalgalá remains impacted by severe staffing shortages, including a lack of grade teachers, vice-principals, and administrative staff, forcing classes to be held only every other day. These issues occur amidst protests by the UDA Catamarca for better wages and facilities, as well as labor actions by professors at the National University of Catamarca regarding salaries and funding.

Other regional disputes include legal proceedings in Entre Ríos regarding a meal supply contract with Teknofood SA, requests from the Formosa teachers' union Voz Docente for protections against online harassment, and protests in Catamarca by families seeking better monitoring of judicial protective measures.
