Turkish regional authorities continue conducting safety inspections, training exercises, and disaster preparedness initiatives. Previous efforts included law enforcement inspections in Eskişehir and Hatay, K-9 debris training in Trabzon, and the ‘Fire Shield Project’ in Talas. Large-scale simulations, such as the industrial accident drill in Kırıkkale and specialized training in Ortahisar, have also tested regional response capabilities. Recent activities have focused on enhancing fire and first aid readiness. In the Havza district of Samsun, fire department and 112 emergency health personnel participated in training sessions covering fire formation, intervention methods, and essential first aid procedures. In Osmaniye, the 112 Emergency Call Center conducted a surprise fire and rescue drill simulating an electrical fire, testing the coordination of AFAD, fire, health, and police services. During Firefighters Week, municipalities implemented various technological and structural upgrades. Ankara plans to increase its fire stations to 55 by 2027, while Trabzon has invested 290.45 million TL in new rescue vehicles. Muğla is initiating the procurement of 72 new fire vehicles, and İzmir has implemented a digital Fire Management Panel. Other activities included ceremonies in Denizli and a joint emergency drill involving AFAD and UMKE at a hospital in Van. Recent drills have expanded to include specialized infrastructure and medical facilities. In Bitlis, an AFAD-coordinated exercise at the 8 Ağustos Tunnel simulated a traffic accident with trapped victims and potential gas leaks to test tunnel security and medical transfer efficiency. Additionally, Muradiye State Hospital conducted a joint drill with AFAD and the Turkish Red Crescent to practice rapid mobilization, patient evacuation, and medical intervention. Selçuk Yay, President of the Red Crescent Muradiye Branch, noted that such drills allow agencies to ‘identify deficiencies and strengthen coordination.’ Disaster response capacity has recently expanded in Ağrı with the inauguration of a new Disaster Training Course.
