Puma rescue and release operations

Overview

Recent wildlife conservation efforts have focused on the rescue and rehabilitation of pumas found near residential areas.

In São Paulo, Brazil, a cougar discovered in a residential room in Birigui was medically evaluated in Fernandópolis. Following confirmation of its health, the animal was released into a preserved riparian forest area along the Aguapeí River by the Environmental Military Police and wildlife specialists.

In Cauca, Colombia, a female puma and her cub were released into the mountains of Miranda at an altitude exceeding 2,050 meters. The animals had been spotted near the Cañas Arriba district, where they were threatened by domestic dogs and potential hunting. The release was a collaborative effort between regional environmental authorities, local government, and indigenous and peasant communities to promote coexistence between humans and regional wildlife.
