Punjab educational system digital reforms

Overview

The Punjab government has introduced several digital initiatives and reforms aimed at enhancing oversight and accountability within its educational institutions.

Initially, the Punjab School Education Department mandated the use of the Educational Institutions Security Status (EISS) mobile application and web portal. Developed by the Punjab Information Technology Board, this platform serves as a centralized digital repository for schools to log security arrangements and perform self-assessments as part of a five-tier monitoring mechanism.

Building on these digital monitoring efforts, the government announced further reforms to increase transparency. These include phasing out manual exam checking in favor of an on-screen marking system and launching a province-wide inspection drive. Under this drive, Assistant Education Officers must use a digital monitoring app to report on teaching quality, facility conditions, and compliance with security protocols, such as the functionality of CCTV cameras.
