Overview
Edgar Francisco Franco, director of the Punto Legal firm, has been sentenced to more than 1,200 years in prison for a massive real estate fraud in León, Guanajuato. The sentencing resulted from two legal processes: an initial 1,018-year sentence for defrauding 107 families, and an additional 238-year sentence after 28 more families were added to the case.
The scheme involved using social media to offer false home auctions. While the sentence is the largest in the history of Guanajuato, victims have not yet recovered their assets. Prosecutors estimate Franco owes the affected families more than 40 million pesos, and authorities are exploring legal avenues to ensure restitution.
