In July 2026, the 40th anniversary of Queen’s 1986 Magic Tour was marked in London and Budapest. Wembley Stadium hosted a two-day programme recalling the historic dual concerts that featured a 50-metre stage, giant side screens and 15 trucks of equipment, and where Freddie Mercury sang through a severe cold. The shows were recorded and later issued as the live album and film *Live at Wembley ’86*, cementing them as the final large-scale performances of the classic line-up. Budapest’s Népstadion, the tour’s sole Eastern-Bloc stop, was celebrated with a diplomatic reception at the British Embassy, a Freddie Mercury wax figure, remarks from photographer Denis O’Regan and attendance by Mercury’s confidant Peter Freestone. Fans recalled the massive logistical effort, the black-market ticket surge and the cultural impact of the concert, including a spontaneous rendition of the Hungarian folk song “Tavaszi szél vizet áraszt”. Extending the commemorations, a fully restored 4K version of the Budapest concert, titled “Queen Budapest”, will debut worldwide in cinemas and IMAX on 7 October 2026, followed by Blu-ray, DVD, vinyl, CD and digital releases on 30 October. The film marks the first official partnership between Sony Music Vision and Queen’s catalog. The 4K digital restoration was carried out by the film lab of the National Film Institute Hungary (NFI), with post-production by Sir Peter Jackson’s Park Road facility in New Zealand. ~~As part of~~ In August, a 4K trailer for the ~~Budapest Classic Film Marathon,~~ film was released, and details emerged regarding an international rollout including Mexico.
