Querétaro state law enforcement and judicial developments

Overview

The state of Querétaro continues to advance developments in law enforcement and judicial administration. The Querétaro State Police (POES) previously received four international awards from the International Association of Crime Analysts for excellence in criminal intelligence, specifically for mapping vehicle theft and locating individuals with active warrants.

Regarding judicial reforms, the LXI Legislature is working to harmonize state laws with federal mandates. This includes establishing procedures for the popular election of judges scheduled for 2028 and creating mechanisms to fill judicial vacancies. These proposed reforms will be sent to the state’s 18 municipalities for analysis and feedback. Furthermore, there is a legislative initiative to restore the historical name ‘Supremo Tribunal de Justicia del Estado’ to the judicial branch.

Technological integration remains a priority as the judiciary expands the use of ‘Sonia,’ a proprietary artificial intelligence system designed to assist judges with the organization, classification, and drafting of legal documents. The state plans for a broader implementation of this system by 2027.
