Racing Club coaching transition

Overview

Racing Club initially decided to retain head coach Juan Pablo Vojvoda despite a sporting crisis that left the team at the bottom of the Torneo Clausura Zone B. Following a 2-1 defeat against Huracán, club president Diego Milito and sporting director Sebastián Saja opted for a match-by-match evaluation of Vojvoda, who expressed a desire to lead a recovery.

However, Vojvoda departed the club following a 3-2 loss to Boca Juniors in the Copa Argentina quarterfinals. After leading 2-0 during the match, Racing suffered an elimination from the tournament. Vojvoda’s tenure concluded after 13 matches with a record of four wins, two draws, and seven losses. Under his leadership, the club struggled in the Torneo Clausura, sitting penultimate in Zone B and 23rd in the annual standings, which jeopardizes their chances for international competition in 2027.

Club leadership, headed by Diego Milito, reached an agreement to end Vojvoda’s contract, which was originally set to run until June 2027. The departure was described by the club as being reached ‘by common agreement’. In the wake of his departure, Sebastián ‘Chirola’ Romero and Luciano Aued, both coaches of the club’s reserve team, have been appointed to lead the squad as interim managers for the remainder of the 2026 season. The club is expected to begin searching for a permanent successor to lead the team into the 2027 season.
