Raiffeisen Bank acquisition of Garanti BBVA Romania

Overview

The National Bank of Romania approved Raiffeisen Bank’s acquisition of Garanti Bank Romania for approximately 590 million euros. The deal encompasses Garanti BBVA Bank, Garanti BBVA Leasing, Garanti BBVA Fleet Management, Motoractive IFN, and Motoractive Multiservices.

Raiffeisen Bank subsequently finalized the acquisition of 100% of the shares of the Garanti BBVA Romania Group from subsidiaries of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria S.A. (BBVA).

While the entities will begin a legal merger process estimated to conclude in the second half of 2027, the banks will continue to operate separately until that time. Officials have stated that existing contractual terms, products, and services for customers will remain unchanged during the transition period.
