Railway disruptions in Slovakia and Hungary

Overview

Railway operations have faced significant disruptions in both Slovakia and Hungary due to separate incidents.

In Slovakia, a fire at the Žilina railway station caused extensive damage to signaling equipment and cabling. This forced the shutdown of traction power, leading to the suspension of freight transport and the replacement of regional train services with buses. To maintain long-distance passenger services between Bratislava, Žilina, and Košice, ZSSK has implemented the use of diesel locomotives.

In Hungary, a shunting locomotive derailed near the switch area at Budapest Déli Railway Station. The incident blocked several platforms, resulting in the cancellation or modification of various lines, including the Martonvásár Z30 and Százhalombatta S40. Long-distance services were diverted to Budapest-Kelenföld, and replacement bus services were organized for certain intercity routes.
