Railway infrastructure vandalism in Liberec region

Overview

Since May, repeated intentional damage to railway infrastructure and optical cables on the Polish side of the border has disrupted train services between Liberec, Varnsdorf, and Dresden. Approximately six incidents of vandalism near Porajów have affected signaling equipment on the section between Hrádek nad Nisou and Zittau.

These disruptions have caused significant delays and service cancellations on the Žitava railway, a vital regional line. In response, Liberec Region officials have called for increased cross-border cooperation between police and security forces in the Czech Republic, Poland, and Germany. Authorities are also discussing emergency measures, such as replacement bus services, to maintain reliability.
