Rakeen Saaded El Gouna Film Festival award

Overview

Jordanian actress Rakeen Saaded won the Best Actress prize at the 9th El Gouna International Film Festival in Egypt for her performance in the film ‘Buma’, directed by Zaid Abu Hamdan.

To prepare for the role of a woman navigating a harsh, marginalized environment in Amman, Saaded underwent six months of intensive training, including physical conditioning and knife handling. Her preparation also involved studying local dialects and researching the social and economic realities of girls in similar urban settings.

During her acceptance speech, Saaded expressed gratitude to Jordan and Egypt, calling Egypt her ‘second home’. She also addressed a recent attack on a church in Karak, Jordan, and dedicated the award to her family.
