Overview

Rakuten Mobile is transitioning its network infrastructure strategy as its roaming agreement with KDDI approaches an end in September 2026. To address potential coverage gaps resulting from the reduction of KDDI roaming services, Rakuten plans to launch a direct-to-smartphone satellite communication service in collaboration with AST SpaceMobile within 2026.
