German Eurovision composer Ralph Siegel, 80, remained in an induced coma for 18 days after a severe lung infection in early July 2026. He was revived, transferred from Spain to a Munich hospital and, on 31 July, moved from intensive care to a regular ward. Siegel told Bild he felt “relatively good”, noted a loss of strength and weight (now about 96 kg) and that he cannot stand without assistance. He thanked the attending professor and the medical team, and his wife Laura confirmed his progress. Since leaving the ICU, Siegel has begun rehabilitation, walking with a rollator and receiving daily ~~support~~ home‑cooked meals from his family. He described vivid, terrifying visions during the coma that inspired a new Eurovision‑song entry he calls “unsurpassable”, likening its feel to his 1982 winning song. On 1 August, he told the Münchner Merkur the melody is “fantastic” and he intends to submit it to the next Eurovision Song Contest.
