In late July 2026 the municipal government expanded its citizen safety committees to more than 100 groups, now involving over 5,000 residents, teachers, traders, taxi drivers and industrial‑park staff. The expansion follows expansion, directed by Mayor Tomás Gutiérrez Merino’s directive Merino, aims to boost preventive surveillance in neighborhoods and industrial zones, with coordination between the committees, the Public Security Directorate and the Industrial Police. New patrol vehicles, armaments and a C2 command centre have been added to improve technological monitoring. A few days later the The Civil Protection and Fire Department reported handling over 4,650 service calls during 2026, including 44 fire incidents—27 in homes, 13 in abandoned dwellings and four on rooftops. Officials warned that many fires in vacant houses are deliberately set after garbage accumulation, while electrical short‑circuits remain the second leading cause, urging residents to check wiring and disconnect appliances when away. By early August the department also began systematic cleaning of storm‑water channels and bridges, such as the Flores Castro bridge, to prevent flood‑related blockages. Crews emphasized not dumping waste into waterways and highlighted the rising financial costs of firefighting operations. On 4 August 2026 heavy rains caused flooding, water accumulation, fallen trees and a downed power cable in Ramos Arizpe. Municipal authorities deployed Public Security, Civil Protection and firefighters to clear trash and branches from the Flores Castro bridge, remove a stranded vehicle on José María Morelos boulevard, and lift a tree that had fallen onto a taxi on Fidel Velázquez boulevard. Water levels receded at a residence on Melchor Ocampo street, and a fallen cable at the intersection of Melchor Ocampo and Gustavo Espinosa Mireles was cordoned off for safety. Residents were urged to avoid flooded areas, report hazards, and use emergency numbers 844 4886981 and 911.
