Raye concert AI bot ticketing dispute
Overview
British singer Raye reported that her upcoming concert at London’s Royal Albert Hall was targeted by a massive surge of automated activity. Despite a venue capacity of 5,000, more than 1.8 million registrations were submitted, which Raye attributed to scalpers using artificial intelligence-powered bots to create “hundreds of thousands of fake registrations.”
To protect fans and ensure tickets are sold at face value, Raye’s team implemented a manual review process to identify genuine supporters and provide them with exclusive presale access codes. While the Royal Albert Hall noted that legislation needs to evolve to address such automated attacks, the secondary ticketing platform Viagogo criticized the manual review process as “absurd.” Viagogo argued that bot activity primarily occurs on primary ticketing platforms and advocated for an “open distribution” model to increase competition and address the issue at its source.
