RCAF CT-157 Siskin II aircraft delivery

Overview

The Royal Canadian Air Force has begun the delivery of CT-157 Siskin II aircraft, the Canadian designation for the Pilatus PC-21, as part of the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT) program. This 25-year, C$11.2 billion contract with SkyAlyne aims to modernize aircrew training using a total of 71 aircraft across five fleets.

Following the initial departure of two aircraft from Pilatus facilities in Switzerland, four CT-157 Siskin II turboprop aircraft arrived at 15 Wing Moose Jaw in Saskatchewan. These aircraft will be used to develop curricula, train instructors, and conduct pre-operational testing.

The RCAF intends to accumulate 19 Siskin II aircraft to modernize its training fleet, providing student aviators with advanced technologies like fully digital cockpits. While the aircraft are single-engine turboprops, officials highlighted their high performance capabilities for simulating combat environments, including electronic warfare and air-to-ground threats. The model is also noted as the selection intended to eventually replace the aging CT-114 Tutor jets used by the Canadian Forces Snowbirds.
