Rebranding of Colombia's Partido Republicano

Overview

The Liga de Gobernantes Anticorrupción (LIGA) has officially rebranded as the Partido Republicano following approval from the National Electoral Council. The movement, which traces its origins to the 2022 presidential candidacy of the late Rodolfo Hernández, has adopted a new visual identity.

Former Senator María Fernanda Cabal has joined the party as its first prominent member in this new phase after departing from the Centro Democrático. Cabal indicated her move was motivated by a desire for professional autonomy and a perceived lack of support from former President Álvaro Uribe. She intends to use the platform to promote a “new right” focused on combating crime, defending private enterprise, and protecting individual liberty.

The party aims to establish itself as a hard-right political force ahead of the 2027 territorial and 2030 presidential elections by building regional structures through the involvement of merchants and business leaders.
