Regional beauty pageants and cultural celebrations

Overview

Regional beauty pageants and local celebrations continue across several South American countries.

In Colombia, ceremonies in San Juan del Cesar and Huila resulted in the crowning of Sofía Urbina Cuello as Señorita La Guajira 2026–2027 and Samy Quintero as Miss Maja Huila 2026. Additionally, Sheyla Nicoll Aguilar Brito was named Señorita Riohacha.

Other regional events included coronations in Ecuador, where Diana Jacqueline Alzamora Morales was named Queen of Otavalo and Katryna Hernández was crowned Queen of the Los Ríos province. In Argentina, Luciana Calderó was crowned Queen during Charata’s 112th anniversary, and Martha Ruth Demartinni was named Queen of the Elderly in Pocito. Peru also reported the coronation of Mayra Hizo Gonzales as Miss Provincia de Barranca.

Recent updates indicate ongoing festivities, including the 114th anniversary of General Galarza in Argentina and the opening of the El Ponchito festival in Catamarca, which features music and dance. In Ecuador, the canton of Zamora is commemorating 477 years of its foundation with civic-military parades. Beyond South America, the town of Ahuacapán in Mexico has announced its 6th Hummingbird Festival, featuring workshops and bird watching.

New cultural programming has been announced in Costa Rica, where the Ministry of Culture and Youth will host ‘Tiempo de Compartir’, a 39-day holiday season from November 19 to December 27, alongside a coffee fair in San José. In Argentina, the El Ponchito festival in Catamarca is scheduled for October 6 to October 11, while the municipality of La Laguna has planned its Christmas light lighting for November 20 and the ‘La Noche en Blanco’ event for November 28.
