Regional cultural and memorial events in Belgium and the NL

Various communities in Belgium and the Netherlands are organizing seasonal events ranging from cultural festivities to memorial services.

In the Netherlands and Belgium, Halloween celebrations are planned, including a youth horror night at the Schoenkwartier museum in Waalwijk and a fireworks spectacle and parade in Blankenberge. These events aim to boost local tourism and engage youth through theater and costume design.

Memorial events for All Souls’ Day continue to be organized across the region, focusing on providing spaces for reflection and communal connection. In Geraardsbergen, Belgium, a ‘Reveil’ moment at the central cemetery will feature music from the Kumbaya choir, a short theatrical piece, and a symbolic ritual for expressing loss.

In the Netherlands, several local initiatives are scheduled to offer comfort through shared rituals. In Zuidwolde, the Memento Mori funeral association is hosting a ‘Lichtjesmiddag’ on November 1, which includes a ‘memory tree’ where visitors can hang messages for the deceased. Rodenborch-College in Rosmalen will host a ‘Lichtjesavond’ on November 2, utilizing light, music, and stories. Additionally, Hengelo will host a ‘Light in the Dark’ cemetery walk on October 17, followed by an All Souls’ Day celebration on November 1 involving a procession to the Calvarieberg.
