Regional development and investment in Corrientes

In early October 2026, Corrientes Governor Juan Pablo Valdés traveled to Paris to seek European investment for the province. The mission focused on renewable energy, industry, logistics, and infrastructure, involving meetings with entities such as ENGIE and WoodShared to discuss carbon credits and sustainable development.

Later in the month, Corrientes hosted the 60th Plenary Session of the Norte Grande Parliament, themed ‘Federalism in Action for a United Argentina.’ Representatives from ten provinces in the Northwest (NOA) and Northeast (NEA) regions gathered to address regional integration, infrastructure, health, and social rights. During the session, Carlos Silva Neder, Vice Governor of Santiago del Estero and President of the Parliament, criticized national macroeconomic policies for their impact on regional economies and household purchasing power. To address historical inequalities, the assembly discussed a proposal for a Federal Convergence Fund for the Norte Grande.

Infrastructure remained a central priority, with leaders expressing strong support for efforts to recover the C14 and C15 railway lines of the Belgrano Cargas system. Discussions also extended to mining investments, specifically lithium and copper, and the strategic importance of the Bioceanic Corridor for regional connectivity. While leaders emphasized the forum’s role in defending northern interests, some local legislators criticized the summit as being ‘disconnected from the immediate needs of citizens facing flooding emergencies in Corrientes.’
