Regional judicial updates on femicide and missing persons

Overview

Authorities in Veracruz, Mexico, and Córdoba, Argentina, have issued updates regarding high profile criminal investigations.

In Veracruz, the State Attorney General's Office reported 30 convictions and 23 legal proceedings involving kidnapping, homicide, and gender based violence. The office is offering 3.5 million pesos in rewards for information on ten missing persons reported between 2011 and 2026. Additionally, a 700,000 peso reward has been offered for information leading to the capture of Lenin Salvador Córdova Pérez, the alleged perpetrator in the feminicide of Dr. Cristina Ramos Argüello, and his father, who is suspected of involvement in a cover up.

In Córdoba, the government increased the reward for information regarding the 2020 femicide of Cecilia Basaldúa to 24 million pesos. Prosecutors are evaluating new leads, including a possible link to Renato Iván Tabella, a detainee accused of other femicides. This follows the 2022 acquittal of the previously only accused individual, Lucas Bustos, due to lack of evidence.
