Regional sports and community infrastructure funding

Overview

Local and state governments in Australia and Ireland have initiated various funding programs to upgrade regional sports and community infrastructure.

In September 2026, the NSW Government in Australia allocated $926,316 for LED lighting upgrades at the Kiama Sports Complex to support aging infrastructure and rising participation in female sports. Simultaneously, Clare County Council in Ireland progressed €241,000 in works at the Kilrush Sports Complex, focusing on dressing room refurbishments and track lighting to provide year-round access.

By October 2026, Australian state governments expanded their infrastructure investments. South Australia announced $2 million for the State Bicycle Fund to support shared-use paths and safety improvements, including projects like the Coast to Vines Trail. In Victoria, the state government committed over $13.9 million to 57 community sport projects through the Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, targeting improvements to pavilions, courts, and lighting to encourage local recreation.
