Release and recognition of film Il cileno
Overview
The Chilean film ‘Il cileno’, directed by Sergio Castro-San Martín, premiered at the Locarno Film Festival. Based on the investigative book ‘Aldo Marín. Carne de cañón’, the film depicts the life of Aldo Marín Piñones, a socialist militant who fled the Pinochet dictatorship in Chile to seek refuge in Turin, Italy. The narrative follows his experiences during Italy’s ‘Years of Lead’ as he becomes involved with anarchist groups.
Following its premiere, the film received the Boccalino d’Oro award for Best Performance at the 79th Locarno Film Festival, which was presented to actor Camilo Arancibia. A co-production between Chile, Italy, and Switzerland, the film is participating in international festivals as part of a campaign to represent Chile at the 2027 Academy Awards and Goya Awards.
