Release of Jonás Cuarón film ‘Campeón Gabacho’
Overview
Filmmaker Jonás Cuarón has released the trailer and subsequently the film ‘Campeón Gabacho’, a comedy-drama based on the novel by Aura Xilonen. The story follows Liborio, a young Mexican migrant in New York who enters the world of boxing to navigate unemployment, language barriers, and social tensions.
Following a trailer release, the film served as the opening selection for the 24th Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). Cuarón noted that the project aims to ‘generate Latino heroes’ to address the lack of representation regarding the migration crisis. The film, which previously won the Audience Award at SXSW 2026, is scheduled for a wide theatrical release in Mexico on October 29, 2026.
