Release and Global Success of K-drama ‘Dive Into You’

Overview

The K-drama ‘Dive Into You’ premiered on Rakuten Viki on September 26. The fantasy romance series follows twins Yoon Ha Na, an A-list actress played by Kim Ji Yeon, and Yoon Ha Ru, played by Jang Se Hyuk. Following a car accident, the siblings use an old camcorder to travel back to 2010 in an attempt to prevent the tragic death of Ha Na’s first love, Jung Woo Jae, played by Park Seo Ham. The series features a time-slip and body-swap complication where the twins unexpectedly inhabit each other's bodies. This causes confusion for Jung Woo Jae as the siblings exhibit uncharacteristic behaviors while navigating their new identities. Due to its time-traveling premise, the drama has drawn comparisons to ‘Lovely Runner’. Following its premiere, the series has gained significant social media attention. While viewers have noted the similarities to ‘Lovely Runner’ regarding the first-love rescue themes, they have also highlighted the unique body-swap and camcorder elements as distinguishing features. During its premiere week, the series achieved significant global viewership on Rakuten Viki, reaching the number one spot in 109 countries. This includes top rankings in Brazil, France, the United Kingdom, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Thailand. The show also secured the number two position in Oceania and Southeast Asia. Cast members, including Kim Ji Yeon, Park Seo Ham, Jang Se Hyuk, and Moon Seung You, have discussed the production. The actors highlighted a positive filming atmosphere, with Kim Ji Yeon noting “the high level of teamwork” and Park Seo Ham describing a “comfortable environment filled with laughter.” Channel A has launched the series, which is described as a genre-blending production featuring romance, time travel, mystery, and comedy.
