Release and Oscar selection of ~~Kamila Andini’s film~~ Empat Musim Pertiwi

Director Kamila Andini’s new film, ‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’ (Four Seasons in Java), is preparing for international festival appearances. The project, inspired by the landscapes of Mount Bromo, follows the story of a woman named Pertiwi who returns to her community after a 20-year disappearance. The film features actress Christine Hakim as Mak Ira and involves intensive training for cast members Arya Saloka and Putri Marino. Following initial reports of its festival circuit plans, the film has been officially selected as one of 20 international titles for the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), where it will premiere in the Centrepiece program. The production is a collaboration between several Indonesian firms and partners from France, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Saudi Arabia, and Singapore. In addition to TIFF, the film is scheduled for a world premiere at the Busan International Film Festival and a theatrical release on October 8. Recently, the Indonesian Oscar Selection Committee (IOSC) selected ‘Empat Musim Pertiwi’ to represent Indonesia in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards in 2027. The selection followed a rigorous evaluation process, including special screenings in Jakarta. Beyond its scheduled appearances in Toronto and Busan, the film is also slated for screenings at the Tokyo International Film Festival.
