The Malayalam film ‘Bethlehem Kudumba Unit’, directed by Girish AD and starring Nivin Pauly and Mamitha Baiju, was promoted via a trailer release ahead of its August 21, 2026, theatrical release during the Onam season. The film is described as a character-driven entertainer focusing on family and the relationship between a Gen Z woman and a millennial man. Upon its release, the film received mixed reviews. While some audience members described it as a ‘simple’ and ‘refreshing’ entertainer, others criticized the direction, dialogues, and screenplay. Despite facing box-office competition from ‘Khalifa: The Intro’, the project saw support from actor Fahadh Faasil, who noted that the lead role appeared ‘tailor-made’ for Pauly. Following its release, the film achieved significant commercial success, collecting over 60 crores worldwide within its first three days. By its first week, the film grossed approximately ₹129 Cr worldwide, bolstered by the Onam 2026 festive season. This total included ₹62 Cr from India and ₹67 Cr from overseas markets. On its seventh day, the film collected ₹9.62 Cr from 2,704 shows, representing a 12.1% increase from the previous day. Critics highlighted the film’s ability to balance romance with the social dynamics of the Karukutty community. By its tenth day, the film grossed over ₹78.45 crore in Kerala alone. By its 12th day of release, the film’s worldwide gross reached ₹215.25 crore, officially surpassing the ₹200 crore mark and establishing it as one of the highest-grossing Malayalam films of 2026. In India, the film’s net collection reached ₹93.60 crore, supported by a strong second weekend that added ₹28.70 crore to its total. Critics have praised the organic, character-driven humor and the chemistry between the leads. By its 18th day of release, the film’s worldwide gross reached approximately ₹273 crore, making it the second highest-grossing film in Mollywood history.
