Release and screenings of Marco Bechis film Ritorno a Buenos
Overview
The film ‘Ritorno a Buenos Aires’, directed by Marco Bechis, premiered at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. An Italian-Chilean-Argentine co-production starring Adriano Giannini, the autobiographical drama is set in 2008 and follows an Italian doctor, Mariano Guerra, who returns to Argentina to testify against former military officers responsible for his kidnapping, torture, and enslavement during the country’s dictatorship.
Bechis, who was personally detained and tortured by the Argentine military in 1977, stated that the film seeks to “provide testimony through fiction” regarding the psychological weight and guilt experienced by survivors.
Following its festival presentation, the film has moved into further screenings as part of the Cinema Revolution campaign supported by the Ministry of Culture. This includes a special event at Cinema Ariston featuring Argentine actress and director Marcela Serli, who portrays a lawyer for the military in the film. Serli is scheduled to discuss the filming process and her experiences at the Venice Film Festival.
Additionally, the film is set to be presented at the Multiplex Giometti in Tolentino as part of the “Decima Musa” project organized by the Tolentino University for the Third Age. This screening aims to explore the historical and political complexities of the “desaparecidos.”
