Release of Monet-themed film in Japan
Overview
The film ‘Monet: The Painting That Crossed the Sea of Time’ is scheduled for a nationwide release in Japan on October 15, 2027. Starring Kento Hayashi and Mone Kamishiraishi, the production is a collaboration between Toei, Minato Studio, and Kawasaki Heavy Industries.
The film’s narrative is inspired by the history of the Matsukata Collection and a Claude Monet ‘Water Lilies’ painting rediscovered in France in 2016. The story follows a young man in Kobe who investigates a photograph left by Kojiro Matsukata, the first president of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, to uncover the legacy of the art collection that established the National Museum of Western Art.
To commemorate the 130th anniversary of Kawasaki Heavy Industries, filming was conducted on location at the Kawasaki Heavy Industries Kobe Works.
