Release of Shahrbanoo Sadat film ‘No Good Men’
Overview
The autobiographical film ‘Nema dobrih muškaraca’ (There Are No Good Men), written, directed, and starring Shahrbanoo Sadat, has begun its cinema release. Set in Kabul in 2021 during the final days before the Taliban regained power, the romantic comedy follows Naru, a 25-year-old camera operator navigating professional ambitions and a custody battle. Due to the conditions in Kabul, the film’s locations were reconstructed in Germany.
Following its selection to open the 76th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2026, the film was screened at the Viennale in Austria. The narrative, based on true events, references the 2021 withdrawal of US troops and the chaos at Kabul airport. Actor Anwar Hashimi, who portrays the character Qodrat, stated that the film aims to encourage nuanced thinking rather than categorizing men as simply ‘good or bad’ and was created in solidarity with Afghan women who have lost their rights under Taliban rule.
