Reliance Jio adds OTT to prepaid plans

In early July 2026, Reliance Jio introduced a low‑cost JioTV Pro add‑on priced at ₹55 for a 30‑day period, giving access to over 1,000 live channels, including more than 150 HD options in 16+ languages via the JioTV app. Data, voice calls, SMS and sports channels were excluded, and a modest 10 MB data allowance was provided for navigation.

Ten days later, Jio rolled out a complementary ₹799 prepaid plan lasting 84 days, offering 1.5 GB daily data, unlimited voice calls, 100 SMS per day and complimentary access to Jio services such as JioAI Cloud and JioTV. The plan omitted OTT and 5G benefits and applied fair‑usage throttling.

On 27 July 2026, Jio expanded its prepaid portfolio with two new plans priced at ₹500 and ₹200, each bundled with free YouTube Premium and a broad slate of OTT services—including Prime Video Mobile, JioHotstar, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Lionsgate Play, Discovery+, among others. The ₹500 plan provides unlimited voice calls, 2 GB daily data, 100 SMS per day and unlimited 5G data, plus 18 months of free Google Gemini AI Pro, while the ₹200 plan offers a 30 GB data voucher and cinema discounts through Cinepolis. Both plans run for 28 days.

These successive launches illustrate Jio’s strategy of layering affordable streaming and AI services onto its prepaid mobile offerings, aiming to capture price‑sensitive Indian consumers who increasingly favour mobile‑first entertainment.
