Religious pilgrimages in Croatia

Overview

Large-scale religious pilgrimages have taken place across Croatia, drawing tens of thousands of participants to various sanctuaries.

In Pleternica, over 20,000 pilgrims from Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The event featured liturgical celebrations and anointing of the sick led by Bishop Ivo Martinović. Although heavy rain prevented the traditional votive procession, attendees interpreted the weather as a divine sign.

Following this, approximately 50,000 people gathered in Ludbreg for the annual Holy Sunday celebrations at the Sanctuary of the Precious Blood of Christ. Led by Archbishop Zdenko Križić, the event included traditional processions and participation from the Croatian Army, police, and veteran communities to honor the values of the Homeland War.
