Republic of the Congo space technology development
Overview
The Republic of the Congo is pursuing a strategic vision to establish itself as a central player in African space technology. During the International Space Summit in Paris, President Denis Sassou Nguesso outlined goals for technological sovereignty, climate monitoring, and data security to move the nation beyond being a consumer of foreign satellite services.
To realize this objective, the Congolese leadership is pursuing diplomatic and industrial partnerships. This includes negotiating technology transfers and infrastructure access with France through the CNES, as well as emphasizing continental integration via the African Union’s African Space Agency. Additionally, the government is expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan, with discussions between President Sassou Nguesso and Kazakh Vice-Prime Minister Zhaslan Madiyev focusing on Earth observation and the development of Congo’s first national satellite.
