Historical research into meteorological records suggests that heavy precipitation and deep mud caused significant logistical difficulties for the Ottoman forces during the period. Digitized research by Antal Réthly indicates that continuous rainfall in August and September 1526 rendered roads nearly impassable, forcing the army to take ten days to travel approximately 25–30 kilometers.
