Research on life expectancy indicators
Overview
Scientific research has identified several indicators correlated with human life expectancy. A study conducted in Brazil involving 1,702 participants aged 51 to 75 found that the ability to balance on one leg for ten seconds may serve as a health indicator. Participants who failed this test had nearly double the probability of dying within ten years compared to those who succeeded, a result researchers suggest may be linked to frailty and musculoskeletal fitness.
Further research published in ‘JAMA Network Open’ indicates that parental longevity also plays a significant role. Analyzing data from the US and UK, researchers found that children of centenarians experienced a 42 percent lower risk of death and a 33 percent lower risk of cardiovascular disease compared to control groups. These offspring also tended to develop high blood pressure approximately five years later than those without centenarian parents.
