Residential fires in Italy

Overview

A series of residential fires occurred in Italy during late September 2026.

On September 19, a fire in a first-floor apartment in Lamezia Terme led to the successful evacuation of three residents and a dog. While the building sustained significant damage and was declared uninhabitable, no injuries were reported, and the cause was suspected to be an electrical malfunction.

By September 24 and 25, more severe incidents were reported in Lucca and Rome. In Lucca’s San Vito district, a fire in a ground-floor apartment resulted in two fatalities and at least 13 injuries, primarily from smoke inhalation. Investigators indicated the blaze might have been caused by a cigarette. In Rome, a fire in an eighth-floor apartment in the Colli Aniene neighborhood led to an evacuation and the rescue of several people, though one tenant remained missing.
