Retail sector challenges in Rimini

Confcommercio Rimini has taken steps to address challenges facing the local retail sector through both educational initiatives and policy advocacy.
In early September, the association launched a free training program titled ‘Il commercio sale in cattedra - Strategie per imprenditori di successo’ (Commerce Goes to the Classroom - Strategies for Successful Entrepreneurs). The program, led by consultant Luca Carrai, provides merchants with training in business strategy, digital marketing, and sales techniques to help them navigate a competitive market.
By mid-September, the association shifted focus toward criticizing factors contributing to a decline in retail businesses. Confcommercio reported that the Rimini area lost 1,013 retail activities between 2012 and 2025. Provincial president Gianni Zanzini specifically criticized local mobility policies, arguing that new bus services and free parking at the Le Befane shopping center disadvantage traditional city centers, which face increased restrictions such as expanded Limited Traffic Zones (ZTL) and paid parking.
