Return of the Kouros of Lentini to Sicily

Overview

The Kouros of Lentini, a Greek marble sculpture from the 5th century BC, is returning to the Regional Archaeological Museum of Lentini in Sicily. The artifact, carved from Parian marble, consists of the ‘Biscari head’ and the ‘torso of Leontinoi,’ which were reassembled in 2018 after scientific investigations.

Previously exhibited on rotation in Athens, Catania, and Syracuse, the statue’s return to Lentini is described by local officials as a ‘return home’ because its components were originally recovered from the local area. The relocation is expected to bolster the region’s cultural identity and support the opening of the Leontinoi archaeological park.
